Character
Character Name: Spada Belforma
Canon: Tales of Innocence
Age: 17
Appearance: this handsome bro is him!
Canon Point: Post-Kelm Volcano.
History: Up to 14!

However, there are things not necessarily said in there due to it simply being a history of the game! This includes who, exactly, Spada Belforma is. Of course I’ll expand more on his personality since these go hand in hand but the basic outline of his history as a person follows this.

Spada Belforma was born the seventh son in the noble Belforma house, noted for the fact they are the king’s line of defense as the Imperial Knights. Due to this, he grew up basically learning to be a knight. Or would’ve, if he wasn’t the seventh born. Six and up got all the lessons and inheritance while Spada only got a promise of a potential political marriage in the future as his inheritance. And, because he was born an Avatar, he’s got naturally better skills than his more experienced older brothers and they were (in his unreliably biased perspective) jealous of him, being aggressive and trying to kill him with shards of glass in his food and, supposedly, scorpions in his sheets. His dad didn’t seem to care much for anyone who wasn’t the first apparently, and the only one who stood up for Spada was a butler named Hartman, who had served since Lord Belforma had been very young.

Hartman taught him the five pillars of the Belforma house, something Spada swears never to forget. And, while the Belformas often use spears, Spada himself duel-wields two swords in equal shape and length. Anyway, Hartman collapsed one day and retired (to Naos), something that hit Spada very hard since the old butler had been a father-figure to him, more than his own anyway, and he still holds a lot of guilt over it. That’d been four years before the game began. And three years later - one year before their journey began - he’d run away from home and was raising hell with his Avatar strength, using it to his advantage and picking fights like no one’s business.

This ends up getting him in trouble as the game begins and Luca sees him being taken away under the reason of Spada being one of the “Fallen”, a derogatory term for Avatars.

Speaking of that, Spada Belforma was the Holy Sword Durandal in his past life. Durandal was created by Vulcan, the god of the forge, and was his last “son”. Vulcan gave Durandal a large responsibility: To protect instead of kill and to end the war. The god disliked the conflict his weapons created (it was said that the Devas would fight over the weapons) and never created another one.

So it was with this great honor and heavy burden that Durandal was taken by Inanna and given to Asura as a gift for when she betrayed Raito in the name of love because she was told to by the Raito leaders.

AU History: N/A
Personality: From top to bottom, Spada’s a wicked looking guy. That is, he seems like a real bully! But only because he acts so tough. Really, he’s not that at all. It’s because of his family he was brought up like this, to be something of a “bad boy”, and completely dependent on himself. Because of that whole sibling jealous/rivalry he had going on, and especially after Hartman retired, he grew up not wanting to depend on anyone because he was afraid they’d get too stressed dealing with him and collapse like the old man. So he takes his burdens on his own shoulders and doesn’t bother anyone else with them, brushing them off and basically acting like he take care of them all by himself (which is true, and at the same time really not), and acts tough as a result.

He’s a strong, stubborn kind of guy who is a little scary in the sense he looks for responsibility in others like the kind he’s got, not to mention he’s rather protective and morally right because of five pillars he grew up repeating hundreds of times before he got their meaning, and he swore he’d sooner die than forget them.

- The heart’s blade shall by thy companion’s shield.
- Order in the right hand, Pride in the left.
- Die to self, become an unmovable mountain.
- The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
- Walk justly the just path.

Not to say he’s a completely good guy. He says he was raising hell using his Avatar powers before he got captured, and he’s pretty damn street-smart for a noble. He’s also kind of a huge jerk (though he’s got a soft spot for the group - and Luca especially) but it’s usually for good reason. Or to tease the ever-loving fuck out of his best friend. But hey, that’s a good reason too, right? It is in Spada’s mind, because he’s always looking for a way to improve the people around him somehow.

Spada likes a number of basic things, the most prominent being tits. I mean, girls. Cute girls. Not in a skirt-chaser kind of way, but if they’re there he’s gonna help himself to an eyeful unless he knows them. Harder to do that kind of thing when you’ve been on the run with them for a while, you know? And he’s the kind of guy to be the wingman if a friend of his has a chance with a girl or likes someone, those girls are strictly off limit to him. Otherwise, any pretty girl’s fair game and up for some flirts, compliments, and general courtesies. Not that he doesn’t have the last with any girl he knows, he’s a gentleman when it comes to ladies. Mostly.

Other things include fighting (he’s good at it), bread, hanging out, and taking long walks on the beach making fun of shrinking violets.

… Oh, but the most important thing to Spada is his friends. Luca, after the party (Luca, Iria, Coda and Spada) leaves Naos to rescue the Holy Maiden from the Naos Rehabilitation Center, has a discussion with Iria and Coda about Spada’s “scary-strong sense of responsibility” and he explains that, to Spada, his friends are his life. He’d never forgive anyone who destroyed or betrayed that.

The top thing Spada really hates is irresponsibility. If you’ve got one, you better be able to own up to the consequences too. To keep to it. It’s why he’s so serious to Iria when she jokes about Luca’s words after leaving Naos, sticking up for the guy and all. Luca mentions that Spada’s got a scary sense of responsibility and he looks for that in others, so if you don’t got it then he’s not gonna respect or like you too much in the end. It’s a core trait of his being, this responsibility thing, because of his past life as Durandal - the sword who saved Asura too many times to count - and because of Vulcan’s wish for his “son” Durandal to end the Devic War, to protect instead of kill. A ton of responsibility that, spoilers, the Holy Sword failed to hold.

His strengths come from growing up as he did (independence, not wanting to rely on anyone, being a pillar of strength for others to lean on) and he shows them off more so his weaknesses (emotional instability, overwrought pride, ego) aren’t as noticeable or as “deadly” to him as it would be called. He’s quick to catch onto something as stupid as he is academically speaking, and while he doesn’t care for books he gets a ton more things than a lot of people. Even Luca and Ange, who are two of the most intelligent book-wise in the party, are stupid when it comes to some of the things Spada knows. Still, you can’t replace those kinds of smarts with street-smarts, and he’d rather not bother with things he doesn’t care about. Not saying he’s as dumb as a rock, but he’s certainly not as well-read. Anyway, he’s pretty intelligent. Part of his charm.

Those pillars of the Belforma house? As much as a source of strength as they are - Order in the right hand, Pride in the left. - they’re also a crippling weakness. It’s what gets Spada so worked up after Luca takes a grave blow from Hasta’s spear: He was so prideful and full of himself thinking that a beaten man can’t do a damn thing that he doesn’t realize that Hasta could very well still do something, and he pays the price. It shakes his foundations, I think, that something like that happened under his watch. The heart’s blade shall be thy companion’s shield is certainly one that rings true that he failed that day, and even while they said they were having fun in Garam’s hot springs they all - especially Spada, who had failed as a shield, and Iria, who cherishes Luca - were worried about the comatose boy.

Social skills, he’s pretty damn good at getting people to open up (prying them open more or less) and giving pep talks. He knows what to say, it seems, for any occasion. Even on the battlefield he comments about honor in death, knowing full well they might not make it out alive. He is the mouthpiece of people’s thoughts at time, mostly people who don’t have the courage to speak for themselves or find themselves otherwise unable to grasp the situation firmly. He’s blunt, but his words can cut like the swords he wields.

As for important relationships... He’s got a good few.

The first would be to his family, though it’s not important in a good way. Rather, it was because of the neglect he had from them (whether or not this is true other than from Spada’s narrative is up to debate, but it sure seemed like it to him) that it was so important for him. It gave him a reason to look out only for himself and to be a better knight than they could ever hope to be, and even if he doesn’t seem to care for the title he takes it very seriously.

The second would be the group in general. Spada’s never had anyone but a passing buddy because of how he is with private matters, but finally meeting people who understand, being Avatars and all, he’s got a set of friends he’d protect with his life - and more. Within the group, there’s the one that helps him grow as a person: The weak-willed, yet determined and brave, Luca Milda. Luca’s as much good for him as it is vice versa, mostly due to the fact of their past live’s roles with each other. Durandal trusted his entire being to Asura to use, and was never unsatisfied, while the sword had saved his wielder’s life on more than one occasion. It was this relationship - the protector and the handler - that gives them an edge at first, even if they start off a little rough in Luca’s opinion. Through the journey, Spada is extra protective of Luca due to circumstances that happened in Durandal’s life that ended in Asura’s death and it only hardens more at Kelm, when he fails as Luca’s protector. Later on they would become the greatest of friends, though they have a natural chemistry in the beginning that even Iria admits is worthy of a little jealous. You can’t, after all, beat a good bromance.

Abilities: Spada’s got wicked reflexes, that’s the first thing. He’s able to block a bullet on the battlefield, and his sharp eyes showed where Ricardo’d been hiding. Due to being an Avatar, he’s got increased strength and general ability from most humans. He can also use wind/lightning magic. He duel-wields swords.

… Is being able to switch topics away from himself an ability? He also speaks freely and unafraid of what it might get him, though he’s conscience about other people’s feelings. Good at reading body language.

New Name: Parma

Samples
First Person: [action/video]
[Parma’s just hanging around the hotel, half-slacking off and half-assing his job. Or so it looks like it, but in reality he’s pretty much enjoying his Guardian job. Not a bad pay, he gets to see the different kind of visitors, and the duty feels as natural to him as breathing does. Kind of boring just watching though, and they’re not exactly the most friendly bunch of people - though they’re better to him to a point - so he’ll just be entertaining himself on the network too.]

Any of you ever people watch? Guess it’s more of spirit watchin’ here, but it’s about the same deal. [A pause as one such customer passes by, and Parma gives him a quick check over for anything suspicious before returning to his point. Totally relaxed again, but he's still paying a good deal of attention to his surroundings.] Just look around and see if there’s anythin’ interestin’ to talk about. Once you got your target, just make up a story or somethin’ to explain what they’re doin’. S’good pastime.

[-- Oh oh, he spots a good one. Hold up, let everyone see that spirit. Large and in charge, obviously one of the more important of the spirits that visited the hotel and wasn't above strutting it out. Looked pretty happy with himself too, even if his fat was jutting out his clothes.]

See that guy? Bet he's one of the biggest eaters here. Probably lost a lot of lovers under those rolls of his too, so I'd be against servin' good times to that fella unless you're willin' to ask for more than what he gives you at the end of the day. Now, this guy's struttin' around like a prize horse because he just found out he's inherited his great uncle's stash of unique foods. I'm tellin' you, all the fancy shit for miles and miles! We're talkin' whole roasts, pig's heads on the wall with apples stuck in their snouts, every kind of bird under the sun hangin' from his walls - all ready to be eaten by that guy. [A pause.] Must have his weight in gold hangin' off his neck.

Third Person: Parma’s not used to being so crowded, but he makes it work by using the wall as his bed rather than the floor. It’s comfier than being packed beside ten, fifteen other guys he doesn’t know, but his neck pays the price. Nothing a little stretching won’t fix in the morning though, so he settles down with his back to the wall and running a hand through his hair as he yawns. He misses his hat - would’ve been good to woo the chicks with. Too bad it’d been replaced like the rest of his clothes when he took a job here. Ah, well, not he can’t buy another. Maybe.

There’s a sense of urgency in his mind, but Parma brushes it off and tries to get some sleep in the still unfamiliar place. He had something to do. Someone to protect. Something like that, it feels like, but as far as he’s concerned it’s nothing but a feeling and one he can’t figure out, so it’s easier just to put it on the back burner and figure it out later. Maybe when it was light out or a day off. Still, it bugged him that he couldn’t remember who’d his past life had been, being an Avatar and all. The fact he was a reborn god seemed to give him an edge with the customers (they were friendlier to him than to others), but which one?

Asura, maybe?

Didn’t seem too right for some reason, but it felt close. He tries to quiet his mind a little and ends up with that nagging feeling again instead. It doesn’t have a source and that frustrates Parma to the point where he stands as carefully as he can to avoid waking the others, stepping out for some air to clear his head and hoping that old hag wouldn’t be too mad about a Guardian wandering around.
